Illustration Nation

Design Category: Illustration and Poster Design

This page highlights a collection of illustrative poster designs that explore both creative expression and functional communication. The work ranges from posters created purely for aesthetic exploration to pieces designed to promote events, where illustration is paired with intentional typography and structured layouts. Across each design, there is a focus on how visual elements and type interact to create cohesive, engaging compositions that effectively capture attention and convey a message.

acadia National Park

This project is a digitally illustrated poster of Acadia National Park, created in Adobe Illustrator with a focus on the Bar Harbor Lighthouse as the central landmark. Using reference photos, I applied an understanding of perspective and lighting to accurately capture the structure and its surrounding environment. The final design highlights both technical Illustrator skills and thoughtful composition to create a visually engaging representation of the park.

Design for Democracy

This poster was created as part of AIGA’s Design for Democracy initiative, which aims to apply design tools and creative thinking to increase civic participation. In my design, I incorporated red, white, and blue in a more subtle way while creating a bold, engaging illustration that visually “pops.” Targeting a Gen Z audience, I paired the visuals with a witty tagline to make voting feel approachable, relevant, and culturally engaging.

Theatre Production Campaign

This poster for a production of Dido and Aeneas was designed to attract a younger audience to a traditionally older demographic. I leaned into the opera’s magical and witchy elements, using an engaging color palette and a crystal ball motif to hint at the characters’ tragic fate without revealing too much of the plot. A key challenge was incorporating a large amount of required text, which I addressed through strong typographic hierarchy to balance readability with the visual composition.

Mood Board:

  • Extraterrestrial

  • Night-mode color palette

  • Shadows and light

Custom Typeface application

This poster showcases a custom hand-drawn typeface I created called “Wubble,” featuring rounded, bubbly forms and soft curves that evoke a sense of playful nostalgia. I applied the typeface to a conceptual poster, using light humor to demonstrate one potential use case and bring personality to the design. The project highlights both my ability to develop a cohesive typeface and thoughtfully apply it within a complete visual composition.

Signet Submissions

This poster was designed to solicit student submissions for the arts and literary magazine, with a visual style that aligns closely with the publication’s overall aesthetic. I used a bold, contrasting color palette of red and teal to capture attention and draw viewers in. The typography was styled to complement the poster’s visual language, creating a cohesive design that clearly communicates the call for submissions.
